Aerifying - Our recent soil tests show very high
levels of sodium. The problem with sodium is that it seals the surface
of the soil. Water infiltration and percolation is impeded. We continue
to Aerify greens, tees, and fairways to alleviate compaction, thatch,
and prevent the soil from sealing up due to excessive sodium. When
aerifying and topdressing greens, we add a little extra sand to insure
that the holes remain filled. We follow up after a few days and
re-brush all greens to make the greens as smooth as possible.
Trenches - New 9 - We have begun topdressing sunken
irrigation trenches on the New 9. We tried digging the sod out and
re-leveling, but the clay is so hard that the sod came out in bricks.
We have had much better luck by merely adding a little sand at a time
to let the grass grow through. We will come back later and continue
adding more sand until the trenches are level.
Winter
Golf - The driving range tee will return to mats only beginning
Oct. 1st. This will provide the grass a chance to fill in before the
plant goes dormant. The mats will remain in use through the winter
months until the first or second mowing in the spring. The golf course
will switch over to 3 holes per green and temporary tees by the end of
October. Golfers will play temporary tees this winter due to the
extensive wear damage the course sustains to the regular tees. It takes
4 - 6 weeks in the spring to recover from winter divots. The golf
course is in good shape this fall and we would like to keep it in good
condition for you to enjoy next spring.

Hours - OCTOBER 8:00 AM - Dark |
This month can bring cooler
weather patterns that may affect the rotations of the Elmer Link Course
(i.e. frost). There may be times when we will use the west course (hole
10) as our starting hole.
As you know we have
aerified the Link Course and we were to have done the same to the
Walker Course. However, we decided to wait until the month of October
beginning Monday the 6th. It will take a couple of days to finish this
project.
As always we appreciate your
patience, as this project is necessary to assure super greens in the
spring. |
